Emirates Green Building Council

The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) was formally established in July 2006 with the goal of advancing Green Building principles, protecting the environment and ensuring sustainability in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Our vision is centered on achieving the highest level of sustainable built-environment in the UAE through the promotion of high-performance green buildings and environmentally friendly technologies. Membership is open but not limited to developers, consultants, engineers, architects, interior designers, contractors, environmentalists, educators, facilities and hospitality management, manufacturers and suppliers; research centers and universities, banks and media. All those concerned within the construction industry and whose common cause is to protect the environment and ensure sustainability within the UAE are welcome to join and participate.



The formation of EmiratesGBC is a milestone and a breakthrough towards creating and maintaining a sustainable built-environment and protecting the ecosystem in the UAE, and this will become a model for the region to follow. The Council has already made significant progress towards our aims and objectives. The EmiratesGBC is the 8th Member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). The WorldGBC has an overall mandate of making buildings ‘green’ across the world and is a federation of national Green Building Councils “working to transform the global property industry towards sustainability” by promoting proven, highly effective mechanisms for industry change.

Why we are a green organisation

The role of EmiratesGBC Members, among other things, is to:

Accept, Support and Contribute to the Green Building movement in the UAE

Promote Green Building policies and initiatives.

Exhibit a willingness and ability to represent Green Building in your sector.

Participate in the activities of the EmiratesGBC.

Promote effective networking across the building construction industry in the UAE and elsewhere.
